"I love the organic nature of oil paint and how it translates when used to create living form. It still amazes me to realize that the illusion of light is created on canvas simply through the use of color.
I grew up in New York and moved to Florida as an adult. I raised my family here. After a career in graphic design, I began painting in oil. Living in South Florida influenced my painting style. Florida’s tropical climate and environment is rich in color and my paintings reflect that.
When I began painting, I concentrated on portraiture and flowers. Later, I discovered the underwater world of the Keys and painted mural-sized triptychs. Presently, I am deciphering patterns in nature and playing with the idea of how we see human form in so many different subjects.
Exhibiting my work in shows and meeting with the public gave me quite an education. It helped me to see my work through the eyes of my potential customers. Listening helped me improve my work and my journey. Every person, potentially, has the eyes of an artist.
As a teacher, I love working with adults who want to improve their painting skills. My favorite teaching experience is when an artist begins to really “see” color reflected in their environment.
